Not your everyday snow shoveling
Volunteer plow drivers needed

So… you’ve mastered the art of clearing your front sidewalk of winter snow. Perhaps you’ve also become an expert at shoveling your driveway. Are you ready for a real primetime challenge? Do you want to become a snow king or queen?

Consider spending some time in the cab of a 10-wheel ITD snowplow with a box of sand or a tank of deicer on the back. If you’re up to the challenge, contact District 3 Maintenance Engineer Gary Moles.

Given current budget restrictions, acquiring an adequate number of drivers will be a challenge this winter, he explains. “We are authorized to hire a few hourly personnel, but we still need people from other sections to fill regular shifts and/or serve as backup drivers.”

Moles invites ITD employees who have a valid commercial driver’s license to contact him if they would like to expand their work horizon.

If you hold a valid CDL and are up for a challenge, please contact me or Dan Bryant (gary.moles@itd.idaho.gov or Dan.Bryant@itd.idaho.gov ). If you qualify, and your current supervisor is agreeable, we have a winter job for you.”

For those who want a taste of the snow plowing experience before considering mountain passes and state highways, ITD’s snowplow simulator will be at the District 3 office the last week of September.

“Sign up early and come play with the toys,” Moles said.
