Sand Creek Byway making steady progress

The Sand Creek Byway project remains on schedule as the contractor begins to wrap up the first season of construction. Work will shift to other activities after Oct. 15 when ground-disturbing activities will be put aside for the winter.

Sandpoint Resident Engineer Ken Sorensen recently toured the project with U.S. Sen. Jim Risch. The senator has been a long-time supporter of the project. He was very impressed with the work that has been done on the project since the groundbreaking ceremony he attended last year.

Three of the piers for the mainline bridge have been completed and work continues on the fourth. A three-quarter Interchange is taking shape at the south end. Before it’s all over, more than 65,000 truckloads of excavated material will be removed from the project corridor, a shoreline extension along Sand Creek will be built and a full interchange constructed at the north end of the project.

The $98 million federal aid project is the largest construction project in Idaho’s history.
