ITD schedules seasonal flu clinics

ITD will join the battle against seasonal flu by offering vaccination clinics at Headquarters Oct. 28 in the Auditorium and on Nov. 5 at the District 3 office.

Employees who intend to get a flu shot at Headquarters should complete a registration form (e-mailed earlier this week) and return it to Patty Fish in the Bridge Inspection section by Thursday, Oct. 22. Individuals will be scheduled for shots during 15-minute time slots, from 7:30 a.m. through 11:30 a.m.

As in the recent past, employees will pay $20 at the clinic and should be eligible for reimbursement. Checks should be made to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, which will conduct the clinic. Cash payments of exactly $20 also will be accepted.

Employees should take their $20 payment to the flu shot clinic along with their Blue Cross insurance card. St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center will file the insurance claim for each covered employee.

Clinic date
Contact
D-1 – Oct. 13 Barbara Baldwin
D-2 – Oct. 22 Dennis Lenz
D-3 – Nov. 5 Althea Fackrell
D-4 – TBD Joyce Shaw
D-5 – Sept. 3 Joan Kley
D-6 – Oct. 21 Dennis Jackson
HQ – Oct. 28 Pauline Davis

Blue Cross then will provide a reimbursement check or a denial of benefits form. If the insurance company denies a claim on an “Eligibility of Benefits” form, Headquarters employees can submit a copy of the denial form along with an ITD-103 expense form for reimbursement through the department’s Wellness Program. The deadline for submitting a reimbursement claim to the Wellness Program is Jan. 22, 2010.

Only vaccinations received at the Headquarters or District 3 clinics are eligible for reimbursement. Vaccinations from other vendors, such as pharmacies, health centers or clinics and supermarkets are not eligible for ITD reimbursement.

ITD employees who do not have health insurance need to obtain a “non-insured” form at the time of the clinic and submit it, along with a receipt for the vaccination and ITD-103 form to request reimbursement through the Wellness Program.

If there is enough vaccine, family members older than 18 may also attend the clinic. Bring their insurance information along to the clinic and St. Alphonsus will file the insurance for you. Family members are not eligible for reimbursement through ITD. Efforts will be made to schedule vaccinations for family members about the same time as their covered ITD employee.

Employees who cannot attend the Headquarters session may register for the District 3 clinic on Nov. 5.

For information about flu vaccinations outside Headquarters and District 3, contact your respective wellness coordinator. Questions about the Treasure Valley clinics should be directed to Pauline Davis at ext. 8481.

H1N1 (swine) flu vaccinations
When the H1N1 vaccine becomes available, Idaho’s public health departments will be offering H1N1 “swine” flu vaccine to high risk individuals. People in the “high-risk” population include:

  • pregnant women,
  • people who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age,
  • health care and emergency medical services personnel,
  • persons between the ages of 6 months through 24 years of age, and
  • people from ages 25 through 64 years who are at higher risk for novel H1N1 because of chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems.

Those in the high-risk population should contact their physician or health care professional for information about whether they should receive the special vaccination.

The H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccinations are offered independently. The symptoms of both flu strains are similar. To ensure the best protection against the two types of flu, persons should get both vaccinations.

The protective effect will begin about one or two weeks after the vaccination and will offer protection for about three or four months.
