New Research Web site provides wealth of information

ITD’s Research Section recently launched an improved program Web site that serves as a storehouse of information and valuable Internet links to transportation-related research.

Research Program Manager Ned Parrish and his staff of Inez Hopkins and Brenda Wynn began working with a Boise State University intern last spring to upgrade the Web site.

Parrish recently explained the features of the new site to members of the Idaho Transportation Board. The site lists all active ITD research projects, providing a brief description of each project and its objectives, along with budget information, estimated completion dates, and monthly status reports.

Other major features of the site include:

  • Information about pool-funded projects ITD participates in with other state transportation departments;
  • Copies of completed ITD research reports dating back to 1958;
  • An array of transportation research search tools, including links to transportation libraries, online research catalogs, research Web sites in other states, and a custom search engine that can be used to search state DOT Web sites;
  • Access to Web sites with a wide range of transportation-related statistical information; and
  • Links to national transportation agencies, such as FHWA, TRB, and AASHTO, and all 50 state DOTs.

“The Web site is designed to help staff and the public more easily access a variety of transportation-related research,” Parrish explains. “It provides information about ITD research efforts, as well as research done nationally and in other states. I encourage people to explore the site and see how it might help them locate useful information in their work area.”
