U.S. 95 travelers to find new relief near Midvale

The newly refurbished rest area on U.S. 95 at Midvale Hill in rural Washington County is expected to open Wednesday (Nov. 25), just in time to provide relief for Thanksgiving holiday travelers.

Consider it an oasis in a big desert ... the rest area is 88 miles south of the nearest rest area – Sheep Creek on US 95 – and 100 miles north of the nearest one at Snake River View on I-84 near Ontario.

The reconstruction project, which began in early March, rebuilt the existing rest area - first built in 1987 – revamped the caretaker facilities, created additional truck parking, and includes other repairs. A security system and closed-circuit television also were installed. The rest room building was completely reconstructed.

During the reconstruction, signs in Weiser and Cambridge announced the closure.  The rest area was to have re-opened a few weeks earlier, but issues with door locks and hardware delayed it.

WF Construction & Sales LLC of Meridian is the contractor on the $1.4 million project.

Janitorial work on Monday and Tuesday was expected to ready the rest area for the re-opening on Wednesday.
