Reviews are in: Upgrades make connections easier, faster

A six-month technology upgrade in Idaho’s rural highway maintenance facilities already is paying dividends, according to those who use the system. Upgraded connectivity is providing faster responses across the network and enabling ITD maintenance workers to be more productive.

Following are random comments from those who notice the significant difference:

  • “… the difference between a tractor and a dragster.”
  • “In the Bliss shed, it is a lot faster and more reliable than the satellite was…”
  • “There has been a huge improvement noticed when retrieving or sending information over the new wire line connection. I can go through all of my time sheet approvals in the time it took me to do two of them in the past using the satellite connection. Another example is when I bring up a looped weather map, which used to take what seemed like forever, now it will fully download in 10 to 15 seconds.”
  • “We are up in Idaho City and no longer in the dark ages. I can’t believe we got by without DSL. It is so much faster and better than the satellite connection and (Microsoft) Outlook… all the other programs function 100 percent faster…”
  • “Our new links are great. They are a lot faster. Yes, we have noticed a huge difference; it is much faster and we love it. All downloads and network files have faster response.”
  • “It’s much faster… It moves through all applications more effectively. Once it got started, it was good.”
  • “The speed has greatly improved, therefore making efficiency in reporting time and in research of forms and qualifications online.”
  • “The DSL in Kendrick is working fine – so much better than the old system. Filling out our AMS time sheet used to take 10 to 15 minutes, waiting for the computer. Not it takes about three minutes from start to finish.”
  • “It’s just a lot nicer. The guys aren’t waiting in line to do their time sheets now. We haven’t had any problems so far, and it’s just a lot quicker to work with.”
