Steve Spoor has become a celebrity of sorts. He has a magazine cover as proof. Spoor’s image and account of ITD’s successful heavy equipment buy-back program are featured as a cover story in the fall issue of Caterpillar’s magazine “Governmental Solutions,” which is devoted to corporate and government relationships. The magazine cover shows Spoor in front of a Caterpillar font-end loader. In his previous position as Maintenance Services Manager, Spoor was responsible for drafting specifications and procuring much of ITD’s rolling stock, from sedans and pickups to backhoe and front-end loaders. The department’s quest for the most economical and efficient heavy equipment fleet led to an innovative buy-back program. Better than long-term ownership. Better than short-term leases. The program enables ITD to purchase new equipment, use it for about five years and sell it back to the dealer for nearly as much as the original price. ITD benefits by having new models with new technology and an included maintenance program. Dealers benefit by receiving back used equipment that is in excellent condition and retains its resale value. Governmental Solutions Magazine describes the program, with numerous attributions to Spoor in its two-page article. Published 12-11-09 |
