Director addresses changing face of Idahy (ICON)

As chairman of ICON Credit Union, I would like to speak to concerns I have recently become aware of about the recent name change of Idahy.

I have been a member of the credit union for 32 years and share the same passion that many of you feel for “our” credit union. I assure you that although the name has changed, the really important things about our credit union have not. The things that are important to us as members, such as the cooperative philosophy and passion that the credit union employees and volunteers feel for serving members, still exists. The credit union has the same mission and its purpose and dedication to members remains unchanged.

Many reasons led your board of directors to seek a more relevant and understandable name for the credit union. After careful consideration and evaluation of the credit union as it is today, the decision was made to "retire" the Idahy name. We believe the name served us well for 57 years, but it was time to move forward with a new name in the best interest of the credit union.

I'd like to apologize on behalf of the board of directors and staff to those of you who believe the name change was unnecessary or that we did not consider your input with the process.

We assure you that it was not our intention to disregard your ownership, interest, or relationship with our credit union, and we sincerely appreciate your passion for our credit union's well being. We also understand that it may feel like “Idahy” is going away as a result of the name being retired, but I assure you that it is our intention to continue doing what we do best – serving our members with the unique personal service and attention you have grown to love.

We share your passion about our credit union and truly feel that the name change was the appropriate thing to do to assure the continued success of the credit union in the future.
Please know your board and staff feel a special bond with the folks from ITD as you are the foundation our credit union was built on years ago, and you continue to be truly valued and loyal members.

You are Idahy today and in the future!

My hope is that each member will embrace this change and move into the future with excitement, knowing that our ICON Credit Union is among the best in the country and is “ours.” I thank you for your support of our credit union, both in the past to get us where we are today, and in the future to assure the continued success as a leader in the credit union movement.
