Interchanges changing shape of I-84

Construction continues to reshape portions of Interstate 84 in the Treasure Valley. Two should be completed this year, and one is scheduled for completion in 2011. Accompanying photos are of the Orchard Interchange from various angles and were provided by Connecting Idaho Partners.

Orchard Interchange
The project began in March 2009, and the old bridge was torn down in late October of last year. The last three lanes of the new Orchard Street bridge are expected to open in March 2010, with project completion slated for April. The reconstructed interchange will have longer, wider ramps; an expanded Orchard Street bridge; and reconfigured local roads around the interchange. McAlvain Group of Companies is the contractor for the $15.1 million project.

Vista Interchange
The reconstructed Vista Interchange is expected to open in summer 2010. The interchange will be Idaho’s first single point urban interchange. Traffic switched to a portion of the new bridge in November 2009. The second half is expected to open later this spring. Central Paving Co. is the contractor for the $17.8 million project.

Ten Mile Interchange
Construction on the new SPUI interchange at Ten Mile began in July 2009. The $33.8 million project is expected to be complete by summer 2011. This winter, crews are building two under crossings north and south of the interchange, and preparing to widen I-84. Work on the interchange bridge will begin this spring. Idaho Sand & Gravel is the contractor.
