Five employees to move from Transportation Planning
to Highways in support of proposed management system

ITD Deputy Director Scott Stokes this week announced a realignment of several Division of Transportation Planning staff members to support the department’s efforts to improve pavement management decisions.

Stokes said five individuals who have a wealth of expertise and knowledge in pavement inventory will be assigned to the Division of Highways where they will become intimately involved in the department’s new management system.

“It makes a lot of sense to have the people who have been monitoring the condition of our highways become key players in helping us make wise pavement preservation and restoration decisions,” Stokes said. “They will be invaluable in applying their experience to the new system we intend to have in place by the end of next year.”

ITD is working on developing a management system that integrates pavement maintenance and management with financial management. Developed from the department’s Research Program Report 183, the new system will significantly improve the department’s planning, decision-making and related processes.

Stokes identified five key employees who will transition from Planning to Highways:

Gary Sanderson, Engineer Manager I
Chuck Gillin, Transportation Services Data Processing User Manager
David Coladner, Mathematical Analyst Supervisor
Karen Strauss, Technical Engineer I
Eric McKeeth, Mathematical Analyst

Four intern positions also will be reassigned to the Division of Highways.

“This represents a new philosophy and a new approach to managing our highway assets that will ensure greater efficiency and wise use of resources, said Greg Laragan, Assistant Chief Engineer – Operations. “We look forward to having the employees join our division.”

The reassigned employees will not immediately change office locations, although that may occur in the future. Initially, all will operate out of their present location, Stokes said. The reassignment will be effective beginning next week.
