Fun events planned as way of saying 'thanks'
for contributions of ITD employees

ITD will join other state agencies in a collective acknowledgment of state employees and their contributions and service during a weeklong celebration that begins Monday, May 3. A variety of events are planned as part of State Employee Appreciation Week.

Headquarters will observe the week by providing opportunities for massages, contests and the annual exercise challenge walk. Some of ITD’s district offices will plan employee activities later this year.

The focus is to provide events and “giveaways” to show how much we appreciate all that our employees do. Employees are encouraged to put the following activities on their calendars and join in the fun. Most events will require advance registration.

Monday, May 3

• Chair massages (Auditorium, by schedule, throughout the day) provided by Miracle Massage.

There will be two to three therapists available to give free (gratuities appreciated) chair massages throughout the day. You must sign up on the schedule posted outside of Room 105 starting April 26th. Massage sessions are limited to one per employee and only 100 sessions are available.

Tuesday, May 4

• ITD’s GOT TALENT! 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.

Do you have special talent? Showcase your talent, either by yourself or with a group of co-workers for the inaugural “ITD’s GOT TALENT” show! Your talent can be singing, dancing, acting, skits, poetry reading - whatever your talent is you can show it off that day! This is a first-come first-served event.

Entries are limited to the first five groups/individuals to sign up and will be limited in time to 3-4 minutes, with groups repeating their act(s) at both the 9:30 and 11:30 times. Must be work appropriate. Prize(s) will be awarded to the winning individual/group. Co-workers, come and cheer your team mate on! Sign-up details to follow.

Wednesday, May 5

• Fitness Challenge walk – 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

All HQ employees are welcome to participate in a 20-minute Employee Appreciation Fitness walk. To participate, sign in at the HQ South Entrance at the picnic tables between 2 p.m. and 3:40 p.m.

Maps with two options for walking routes will be available. All walk participants will receive a walk incentive, and fitness challenge participants may count their 20-minute walk time double on their weekly log sheet. We also will be handing out cheese sticks and bottled water after employees cross the finish line.

• Chair massages (Auditorium, by schedule, throughout the day) provided by Miracle Massage.

There will be two to three therapists available to give free (gratuities appreciated) chair massages throughout the day. You must sign up on the schedule posted outside of Room 105 starting April 26.

• Count the items in the jar.

This popular activity will highlight Cinco de Mayo. The items to count this year are Hot Tamale candies. A gift certificate to a local Mexican restaurant will be the lucky winner’s prize. The winner will be announced by 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The rules are simple. The person who guesses the number of items contained in the jar without going over the exact number wins. In the event of a tie, there will be a random drawing of all who guessed correctly.

Thursday, May 6

• 10 a.m.– Pie Contest

Bakers, we want your pies! There will be a pie baking contest starting at 10 a.m. in Room 115. The winner will be announced once judging is completed. After the contest, pie slices will be available to those interested on a first-come, first-served basis.

• Spring Fling - 2:30 p.m. - Annex lawn

Do you like to build things? Show off your creative skills with ITD’s Spring Fling! What is a Spring Fling? It is a competition between groups of ITD employees to see who can devise the best “holder” for an egg. The egg will be placed in your device and then shot across the grass. The group with the device that travels farthest without breaking the egg will win lunch the following week!

Friday, May 7

• Decade and Doughnut/Bagel Day

Employees can dress in their choice of any past decade of fashion.

The Employee Appreciation Week team will be providing doughnuts and bagels in Room 115 at 10 a.m. to all HQ employees.

Movies in the HQ Auditorium - we will be streaming “Johnny Carson and Friends” short features throughout the day in the auditorium. Employees can come to the auditorium during their breaks and lunch to sit, relax and enjoy some popcorn.

Throughout the week

Presentations on topics of interest will take place throughout the week on a variety of topics. Stay tuned for more details and a schedule of presenters!
