Stormwater quality training

Brian Ness, ITD Director
Greg Laragan, Assistant Chief Engineer – Highway operation
Garth Newman

Our FHWA (Federal Highway Administration) Division Office recently contacted Greg Laragan about our desire to have Garth Newman present a one-day Storm Water Quality Training class for our engineering staff.

We received great feedback on the three-day course Garth teaches and asked him to streamline it and give us a one-day version, not for qualification purposes. We wish to thank Garth for taking the time to streamline the course and deliver it to our engineering staff on April 6, 2010.

Our staff thoroughly enjoyed Garth’s presentation of the material, as evident from numerous questions that were asked. He also shared with us several reference manuals (EPA’s Developing Your Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan) and ITD’s NPDES/Storm-water Inspector Re-Qualification Manual) for our use.

Thanks again to both Greg and Garth for making this happen.

Sincerely,

John A. Perry
Field Operations Engineer
Federal Highway Administration

Thanks for continued participation

I want to thank you for the unwavering support we received from the ITD during the Pocatello Safety Fest last week. The Safety Fest, held for the first time in Pocatello, was a huge success with over 40 different classes provided to approximately 630 attendees free of charge.

Trey Mink, with the assistance of Randy Norris, also from District 4, presented two OSHA 10-Hour Construction Training classes at the Pocatello Armory and Fairgrounds on 21 and 22 April 2010. Trey and Randy are outstanding trainers with a wealth of field experience that brings instant credibility to their presentations and allows them to easily connect with the attendees.

Over the two-day period, Trey and Randy had 59 students in their two classes. The students represented both the private and public sectors. The types of contractors and organizations represented in the classroom were the Shoshone Bannock Tribes, Irrigation & Transportation Department, TERO, ISU Technology Building Construction, plumbing contractors, excavation contractors, electrical contractors, and paving contractors, just to name a few.

Thank you again for your support and we look forward to the ITD’s continuing participation in the Safety Fests of the Great Northwest.

Regards,

Bill Bankhead
