D-1 retired engineers tour Sand Creek Byway,
Dover Bridge projects

It was Old Home Week recently as a reunion of sorts took place in District One. District Records Inspector Steve Johnson hosted a tour of the Sand Creek Byway and Dover Bridge projects for some former employees who knew both projects very well. At one time or another, each of them had worked on one or both projects.

Larry Wolf was assistant district engineer and design engineer during the early years of the Byway project. Dave Fields took over as Design Engineer and later became the Coeur d’Alene Residency Engineer. Roger Harris was survey crew chief in 1953 for the first survey work on the Byway alignment. He later retired as TSEA in the Coeur d’Alene Residency. Tom Gill joined them for the tours. Tom also retired as a TSEA in the Coeur d’Alene Residency.

One of their tour guides was Ed Florence, who retired as the TSEA in the Sandpoint Residency. Ed is currently working for a consultant on the Dover Bridge project. Sandpoint Resident Engineer Ken Sorenson gave the group an extensive overview of the Byway project.
