ITD awarded gold status in annual
May in Motion alternative transportation competition

Nothing says thanks for a job well done like gold. If it can’t come in the form of precious metal, a gold award will suffice.

ITD employees in the Treasure Valley recently completed the May In Motion promotion of alternative travel with one of the highest honors presented. Because of its participation level, ITD earned the Gold Level award, coordinator Judy Davis announced.

Davis takes the lead in promoting and organizing May in Motion participation by employees from Headquarters and District 3. Largely through her efforts, that participation level earned the department one of the program’s highest distinctions. It’s been a three-year progression to arrive at this tier – ITD finished with a bronze award in 2008 and a silver last year.

“May in Motion is not really an HR program activity but Judy has accepted the assignment to coordinate this program without hesitation and has done a great job of representing ITD,” said Mary Harker, manager, Human Resource Services. “She gives her best to every assignment that is given her.”

Achieving “gold” status provides some intrinsic benefits for the department – approximately $5,000 in “earned media” or public recognition. Davis said ITD will be featured prominently in:

News releases and news media interviews
Recognition on Valley Regional Transit (VRT) bus advertising placards
Recognition in two half-page advertisements in the Idaho Statesman’s business section, and
Recognition in a full-page ad that will appear in the Idaho Business Review

But the greatest reward does not come from public recognition. It’s the satisfaction of participating in a regional program that emphasizes the use of alternative commuting methods and their positive impact on the environment, traffic congestion, use of natural resources and personal health.

The more people participate, the more they make a positive impact on the world and communities in which they live. “A huge thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s promotion – we couldn’t do it without you!” Davis said.

The ads on the bus exteriors will be visible a little later this summer according to VRT. The ad in the Idaho Statesman will be published the week of June 21, and the ad in the Idaho Business Review will be published Wednesday, June 23 and Monday, June 28.

Davis has been invited to represent ITD at a June 24 May-in-Motion awards luncheon at Boise State University’s Stueckle Sky Center .

May in Motion is an annual promotion of alternative travel sponsored by the Ada County Highway District’s Commuteride. Commuteride coordinates an extensive network of public commuter vans, promotes carpooling and pedestrian travel, public transportation and park-and-ride lots, and works with local employers/organizations. The goal is to remove drivers from single-occupant commuting vehicles and encourage them share the ride with others.
