McGuire, D-4 ride high in saddle at 2010 'Roadeo'

Having the eventual state champion, as well as the top overall team, helped the District 4 squad come out on top in the ITD state Roadeo championships, held June 15 at the Idaho Falls Maintenance Shed.

Peter McGuire repeated his 2008 victory with a 30-point win over Bruce Dial from District 5, and by 32 over Troy Stone of District 6, the third-place finisher.

The competition featured 24 maintenance men – the winner in the Foreman’s Division in each District roadeo, and the top three finishers in the Transportation Tech. division for each district. Five of the 24 were previous state champions.

Rex Hufford, ITD statewide equipment roadeo coordinator, wanted to give a special thanks to “all the District individuals who come out and volunteer to judge, keep score, cook, help set up, get the equipment ready, and support our efforts. It’s the District people, the volunteers, who really make the truck roadeo program work.“

The competition included two rounds of scoring through the truck-driving and loader-operator courses, in addition to a truck inspection and a written exam. Participants also had 10 minutes to find five “planted” defects in the truck inspection portion of the competition and 10 minutes to answer 10 multiple-choice questions.
