Director names new chief of operations

ITD Director Brian W. Ness announced this week the selection of Paul Steinman as the department's new chief of operations.

Steinman, 45, will lead 1,300 employees that work in the department's highway operations, maintenance, construction and planning programs. He will assume his duties in December.

He recently served as state construction engineer for the Florida Department of Transportation where he was responsible for a $3 billion annual highway construction program. Steinman also held a variety of engineering positions during a 20-year career at the Florida and Michigan departments of transportation. He is a licensed professional engineer in North Carolina, Michigan and Florida. Steinman has a bachelor's degree in engineering from Michigan State University.

"Paul's experience and leadership will position him to make an immediate, positive impact on the department," Ness said. "I look forward to the expertise and energy he will contribute as we work toward becoming the best transportation department in the country."

"I am excited about this new opportunity and the challenges the director has given me," Steinman said. "I understand his vision and share his optimism for the future."
