ITD, state police partner to stop impaired drivers

ITD partnered with the Idaho State Police and other law enforcement agencies across the state to make highways safer by funding high visibility impaired driving enforcement patrols Dec. 17 to Jan. 3.

During this campaign, Region 4 (south-central) ISP troopers focused on enforcement of impaired driving and seatbelt violations.  Here is a summary of the actions taken by troopers:

  • DUI arrests: 15
  • Seat belt / child restraint citations: 64
  • Felony arrests: 3
  • Stolen vehicle located: 1
  • Fugitives apprehended: 2
  • Suspended driver licenses: 22
  • Uninsured motorists: 97
  • Speeding citations: 361
  • Reckless driving citations: 4
  • Drug arrests: 16
  • Underage alcohol arrests: 10

Total Contacts: 1,167

"Your best and only defense against drunk drivers is to always wear a seat belt and remain attentive to your surroundings and other drivers," Lt. Haight said. "Those occupants wearing a seatbelt increase their chance of survival greatly."
