FHWA presents partnership award to D-1's Sorensen

Gus Shanine, deputy division administrator for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in Boise, presented an FHWA partnership award to Sandpoint Resident Engineer Ken Sorensen, for his outstanding leadership efforts. The presentation was made at the recent ITD/AGC annual meeting for districts 1 and 2 in Coeur d’Alene.

Shanine cited Sorensen’s leadership skills in the continuing construction of the Sandpoint North & South (better known as the Byway) and Dover Bridge projects in Bonner County.

In his remarks, Shanine noted that as two of Idaho’s largest and most complex projects, in one of the most environmentally sensitive areas, the projects have undergone a high level of oversight and scrutiny by FHWA, resource agencies and the public. Ken has done an outstanding job in addressing questions and issues raised throughout the construction of these projects, Shanine said.

Sorensen’s leadership, technical expertise and his efforts in reaching out to the agencies and the public have contributed significantly to the ongoing success of these projects and the development of partnerships with the numerous project stakeholders, Shanine acknowledged.

Ken was also quick to praise his staff and their ongoing efforts to work towards a successful conclusion on both projects.
