Project Development Conference scheduled April 26, 27

Former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters among featured speakers

Former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters will be among the speakers featured at the 2011 Project Development Conference, April 26, 27, at the Boise Centre on the Grove in Boise. This year’s focus is on “Smooth & Safe: Balancing the green, black & white.”

Sponsored by ITD every two years, the conference includes a full day of general sessions on Tuesday, April 26, approximately 24 breakout sessions the following day, the Excellence in Transportation Awards Banquet and a variety of vendor displays.

The conference will open with a flag ceremony that features the City of Boise Police Pipes & Drums and the Boise Police Honor Guard at 9 a.m. Opening remarks by Idaho Transportation Board member Jim Coleman (Coeur d’Alene) and ITD Director Brian Ness will follow in the morning.

Other morning speakers include:

  • Kevin Moody, Federal Highway Administration, 9:50 a.m. – 10:50 a.m.
  • Glenn Knight, PMP, Knight Associates Inc., 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Steve Muench, Ph.D, PE, University of Washington, 1:45 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.
  • Mary Peters, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation and former administrator for the Federal Highway Administration, 3:15 p.m. – 4:15 p.m.

Breakout sessions, divided into four tracks, will begin at 8:30 a.m., April 27. Tracks include: Design/Traffic, Materials/Bridge, Environmental, and Planning. The second day will conclude with closing remarks and a raffle from 3:45 p.m. to 4 p.m.

ITD will present 10 project and professional awards at the Excellence in Transportation banquet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26. Project categories are:

  • Construction
  • Small Design (construction less than $2.5 million)
  • Large Design (construction more than $2.5 million
  • Environmental Stewardship
  • Maintenance and Operations
  • Public Participation
  • Transportation Planning

Professional honors will be awarded for ITD Engineer of the Year, ITD Professional of the Year, and ITD Career Achievement.
