ITD, partners honored for engineering excellence

ITD and its partners collected several project awards, including two first place honors, Monday from the Idaho Council of Engineering Companies. Several of the state awards also advanced to the American Council of Engineering Companies competition where they received national honors.

Stanley Consultants and ITD received a first place in the transportation category for design of the Interstate 84 Vista Interchange, the first in Idaho to use a single point urban interchange design.

The interchange also was awarded second place in the “studies, research and consulting” category for its public involvement program that included creation of a kiosk at the Boise Airport. The Langdon Group created and managed the public involvement process for ITD.

Wilbur Smith Associates and Idaho’s Division of Aeronautics received first-place honors for completion of the Idaho Airport System Plan. The state winner also claimed a national ACEC award as a project that “demonstrates exceptional achievement in engineering.”

The airport study and plan was recognized April 1 at ACEC’s 2011 “Academy Awards” in Washington, D.C.

H.W. Lochner and ITD also were double winners in the special projects category for designing ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)-compliant handicap access ramps. Those ramps were installed at many intersections throughout the state with federal stimulus funds.

Monica Crider, who managed the project for ITD, received the state and national awards.

Keller Associates, Inc., and ITD’s District 1 received a second-place award in the transportation category for design work on a U.S. 95 junction in Coeur d’Alene.

The annual Idaho Engineering Excellence Awards competition is open to all engineering or surveying firms in Idaho to recognize engineering achievements “that demonstrate a high degree of merit and ingenuity, and that provide a major contribution to technical, economic and social advancement.”
