Interstate 84 East project receives national ARTBA award

A national roadbuilder's organization recently selected ITD, Connecting Idaho Partners, RBCI and the Langdon Group for an award in community relations for their work to keep the public informed of progress on the Interstate-84 East family of projects.

“Positive civic involvement” work on the five I-84 East projects received the 2011 American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) Pride award that will be presented at a May 24 luncheon in Washington, D.C.

The I-84 East family of projects also includes the Orchard Avenue Interchange reconstruction, the Broadway to Eisenman resurfacing, the New York Canal bridge widening, the sound walls from Broadway to Cole, and the ongoing Cole to Broadway freeway widening.

A judging panel of public relations agency professionals and construction industry journalists made the selection, the award letter from ARTBA to Connecting Idaho Partners (CIP) said. The Pride Awards honor excellence in community relations and public education that enhance the image of the U.S. transportation construction industry.

It recognizes the “outstanding efforts of individuals, companies, public agencies and industry-related associations,” according to their submission form.

RBCI did the public involvement work for all of the I-84 East construction. The Langdon Group was the outreach team for the airport kiosk effort related to Vista.

“The Idaho Transportation Department and Connecting Idaho Partners employed an innovative community relations solution during the design and construction of Boise’s $135 million I-84 East Corridor, serving 75,000 vehicles per day,” according to the award application from CIP.

“Consolidating public outreach activities under the management of a single stakeholder coordinator and issuing bundled contracts increased efficiency and facilitated cost savings, resulting in delivery of timely, consistent messages. Use of innovative tools and techniques ensured stakeholders’ awareness of construction activities prior to initiation, resulting in greater safety for the public and construction workers. Stakeholder feedback demonstrates the value and success of this dynamic, multifaceted, comprehensive community outreach program.”
