CEC committee endorses 2+1 increase proposal
The
Change in Employee Compensation (CEC) committee
met , Thursday, (Feb. 5) and voted on their
recommendation for a salary increase for state
employees.
The
following resolution was passed:
A
concurrent resolution providing funding for
benefit cost increases, a permanent 2% salary
increase for state employees, and a temporary
1% salary increase contingent upon revenues
exceeding the current-year estimate by $5
million dollars. See related story in the

ITD 2005 budget presented to JFAC
ITD Director Dave Ekern and department
administrators presented the FY2005 budget request
to members of the Legislatures Joint Finance
and Appropriations Committee Thursday. The message
was simple and straightforward the proposed
spending authority of $425.9 million will enable the
department to provide the services and products Idaho
citizens expect, and to deliver them in the most efficient
manner possible.

Snow,
debris slides create problems on Idaho 55
A number of snow and debris slides closed
Idaho 55 for three hours Friday morning (Jan. 30),
the opening weekend of the popular McCall Winter Carnival.
Falling logs and debris struck one vehicle, sending
its driver to the hospital via life flight.

chooses new financial management system
ITD
will begin laying a foundation this spring for conversion
to a new Integrated Financial Management System. American
Management Systems (AMS) recently emerged as the top
choice among five bidders to provide a replacement
for the Oracle system now used to handle the departments
financial, human resources and supply functions.

Idaho
to benefit from new aviation bill
Dubbed
"Vision 100 The Century of Aviation Act,"
the new aviation bill provides $14 billion for airport
construction projects nationwide, $140 million to
help small communities attract and retain air service,
$308 million to ensure air service to isolated communities,
and $2 billion to create more efficient security screening
at airports. The new bill will have a significant
impact on aeronautics programs administered by the
Aeronautics Division.

praise EEO workshop content, speakers
ITDs
two-day workshop last week on Equal Employment Opportunities
attracted 110 participants the opening day and another
largely unduplicated 90 individuals
on the second day. Responses from participants were
very complimentary, said EEO manager Karen Sparkman.

Nampa
underpass receives design award
The
11th Avenue Underpass Project in Nampa is being recognized
by the American Council of Engineering Companies of
Idaho (ACEC) as the top project in the state last
year. J-U-B Engineers, Inc., the firm that designed
the underpass widening project, will accept the "Grand
Concepetor Award" at the 2003 Idaho Engineering
Excellence Awards Banquet today (Feb. 6).

clippings to be available online
The Public Affairs office
plans to deliver transportation-related news to your
desktop on a daily basis. Work is progressing to put
news clippings about ITD and transportation in Idaho
on the departments Intranet portal page, accessible
by most department computers. The conversion from
photocopied pages to electronic format might be complete
by the end of this month.

Idaho
might get major boost in transit funds
Idaho Sen. Mike Crapo Thursday won an
increase in formula transit funding for Idaho of 148
percent over the life of the emerging Transportation
Bill, known as SAFETEA. The changes mean bus programs,
vanpools, and other mass transit efforts in Idaho
will see an increase from $33.4 million over the past
six years of the program to $82.5 million, spread
over the next six years.
