Summer tour of state begins in District 2

The Idaho Transportation Board will return to a summer schedule of road meetings when it travels to Lewiston for a tour of local projects and its regular monthly business meeting. The tour is scheduled for Wednesday with the business meeting to follow on Thursday at the District 2 office, 2600 Frontage Road. Wednesday’s tour will focus on active and proposed projects on U.S. 12, Idaho 162, and U.S. 95 in the Kamiah, Nezperce, and Winchester areas.

Planning
Meetings launch Statewide Transportation Plan development
ITD launches a series of regional Economic Outlook Summits April 19-28 that will culminate in a Statewide Transportation Plan that guides project selection for the next two decades. The long-range planning process also includes participation by the Idaho departments of Commerce and Labor and the Governor’s Task Force on Modernizing Transportation Funding.

Highway safety
Motorists reminded to use caution in highway work zones
Spring weather and increasing highway construction activity bring a renewed plea by ITD for motorists to drive carefully through work zones – for their own safety and the safety of construction workers. Each year, the Federal Highway Administration, the Idaho Transportation Department and other state departments of transportation draw special attention to safe driving in or near work zones during Work Zone Awareness Week, scheduled nationwide April 19-23.

Five I-way leadership awards presented
I-way Leadership awards are offered on an annual basis to recognize leadership and innovation in the effective coordination of mobility options. The Community Transportation Association of Idaho (CTAI) and ITD's Division of Public Transportation announce the five recipients of the 2010 I-way Leadership Awards.

REMINDER: No insurance premiums on April 30
ITD employee medical and dental insurance premiums are split between the 1st and 2nd checks of the month. Since April 30th will be our 3rd pay date for April, we will not need to pay any insurance premiums.

Moscow maintenance worker's son takes 3rd
at national wrestling tournament

Eric Frisbey is among the best in his class. The son of Tim Frisbey, a transportation technician based at the Moscow Maintenance facility, recently finished third in his weight class at a national wrestling tournament. Eric placed third in the 145-pound weight class in competition held in Reno, Nev.

Aeronautics
Teens invited to apply for aviation academy
Navigating small airplanes, controlling air traffic and exploring Blackhawk helicopters are all part of the Aviation Career Exploration (ACE) Academy, June 21-23, hosted by the Idaho Transportation Department's Division of Aeronautics. Thirty teenagers will have the opportunity to participate in the academy, which is open to high school students ages 14-18. Applications must be postmarked by May 1.

CTAI announces new program director
Community Transportation Association of Idaho recently announced the selection of Elsa MacDonald as its director of programs. She began her duties Monday (April 5). She will provide high-level, professional expertise to the executive director, association members, public and private agencies and the public, supporting and coordinating mobility in Idaho.

Highway Safety
Motorists urged to use caution in highway work zones
Relatively mild winter conditions in Idaho this year enabled a number of highway construction projects to continue uninterrupted. Activity on many other projects either has resumed or will begin in the coming weeks. Increased highway construction brings a renewed plea by ITD for motorists to drive carefully through work zones.
