RESCHEDULED: Bridge girder work closing eastbound I-84 tonight at Broadway
BOISE – Eastbound traffic on Interstate 84 will be detoured across the Broadway interchange tonight Wednesday (April 23) while the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) places girders for the new interchange bridge. Westbound I-84 will remain open.
Additional eastbound girders will be placed later in the project. Westbound girders will be placed in early May.
The detour will begin at 8:30 p.m. tonight and end at 5 a.m. tomorrow morning, Thursday (April 24). Drivers will exit eastbound I-84 at the Broadway interchange. Flaggers will direct interstate traffic across Broadway Avenue and back onto the eastbound I-84 on-ramp.
The closure will allow crews to set five concrete girders for the new bridge over I-84. ITD is replacing the current bridge and ramps with an interchange to accommodate more traffic.
Broadway interchange construction began in March and will continue until late 2015.
ITD encourages drivers to slow down and pay attention in the work zone. The Gowen interchange and I-84 also are under construction.
message signs between Orchard Street and Vista Avenue, and at the end
of the Vista on-ramp, have been in place since late last week to alert
motorists to the upcoming work.
The speed limit is 55 mph on I-84 and 25 mph on Broadway Avenue.
Concrete Placing Co. Inc., of Boise, is the contractor on this $26.7 million project.
