Employee Appreciation Week activities planned at HQ

See more details in the Employee Appreciation Week flyer

As a way of saying thanks to many dedicated employees, the Idaho Transportation Department and observe Public Employee Appreciation and Recognition Week May 7–11.

Employee recognition activities are encouraged and planned at Headquarters and through the department's six districts.

During the week, Headquarters employees may guess the identity of fellow workers by matching baby pictures with the correct name in the Headquarters “Mighty Results from Small Beginnings” contest.

While guessing who became who at ITD, give Sherry Buwalda a best guess as to the number of items in a lobby-based jar provided by the Office of Highway Safety. Make that one guess per employee and have it submitted also by noon Thursday.

Headquarters activities begin on a sweet note Monday with free milk available at the patio area from 11 a.m. to noon. After quenching thirst, sit back and relax in the Auditorium from noon to 1 p.m. for day one of “Flashback TV Theater,” featuring old friends Bugs, Daffy and Elmer in “Looney Tunes” cartoons. Or, sign up outside room 105 for a free 10-minute chair massage by a skilled therapist. Gratuities will be accepted.

On Tuesday, enjoy day two of “Flashback TV Theater” with moose and squirrel in “Rocky and Bullwinkle” beginning at noon. If you’re still craving something sweet, win a cake. All employees are invited to decorate a cake with a “spring” theme and enter it in the Spring Fling Cake Contest. Judging and awarding of a prize for the best decorated cake begins at 2 p.m. in the break room. Cakes entered will be raffled off to employees.

Chair massage opportunities continue Wednesday but don’t forget to sign up outside room 105. Idaho Athletic Club representatives will be onsite to provide nutritional information and Body Mass Index (BMI) screenings from noon to 1 p.m.

Feeling relaxed and healthy? Sign up for the 20-Minute Fun Walk at the Headquarters’ south entrance picnic tables from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Maps showing two options for walking routes will be available and safety vests will be raffled. “London Bridge” challenge participants may count their 20-minute walk time double on log sheets.

Cheese will be available for all participants and Idaho Central Credit Union representatives will be onsite to provide water for employees during the walk.

The day’s activities wrap up at 3 p.m. with everyone invited to join the Executive Team in the patio area for dairy treats.

An employee talent show begins activities on Thursday at 9 a.m. in the Darrell V Manning Auditorium. Sing, dance, act, perform a skit or read a poem but enter “ITD’s Got Talent” by Tuesday, May 8, for this first-come, first-served event. Register early because entries are limited to the first eight groups or individuals. The winning individual or group will earn a prize. Call Dianna Magstadt at 334-8792 for more information or to sign up.

ICON representatives will provide retirement advice in the auditorium from noon to 1 p.m. and provide cake for everyone in the patio area from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Wrap up the week Friday by learning how to protect pets for the summer from representatives of the Canyon County Animal Shelter from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the auditorium. Consider bringing food or cash for a shelter donation.

Grab lunch and enjoy day three of “Flashback TV Theater“ and “The Muppet Show” in the auditorium from noon to 1 p.m. when winners of the “Guess the Number of Items in the Jar” contest and “Mighty Results from Small Beginnings” will be announced.

Funds for employee appreciation purchases were provided by executive management, senior leadership, and DOROLCO.
