AEDs in maintenance sheds helps alleviate catastrophic health concerns
Crews in the field routinely work several hours away from medical care. If an employee goes into cardiac arrest on the job in a remote location, their chance of survival can be slim. District 3 Safety Compliance Officer Eric Copeland proposed a solution to that exact circumstance: put AED’s in all district maintenance sheds

Super savings: a single contract saves $1.7 million
As far as savings and efficiencies go, this one is a game-changer. By replacing 17 bridges under a single contract, ITD has already saved $1.7 million. The single contract has enabled the collection of engineering data on all the bridges at once rather than separately, which is standard practice.

ITD steps up for Idaho's Great American Eclipse
As ITD looks back on the 2017 Solar Eclipse, it is fair to say that the event was a success for safely moving people in and around the state to enjoy the experience — especially given the apocalyptic predictions leading up to the final weekend.

Using 3D renderings, animation to drive public engagement and understanding of project
On many complex bridge replacement projects, it may be difficult for the general public to visualize what ITD is trying to accomplish. By using 3D bridge renderings and animations, ITD is better able to communicate and help project stakeholders visualize the final result of bridge-replacement projects.

Drugged-driving concerns, GARVEE next steps, speed zones highlight August board meeting in Cd'A
Impaired-driving concerns, the next round of GARVEE authorizations, and review of the 80-mph speed zones were discussed during the recent Idaho Transportation Board meeting, August 16-17 in Coeur d’Alene.

Intersection warning system brings more awareness to drivers
Rural highway intersections can be hazardous if drivers are not aware of upcoming stops and free-flowing traffic crossing their paths. D4 found a lower-cost system to help save lives.
District 1 & 2
Districts collaborate on bridge-joint repair
When ITD works on bridges, it’s typically to better connect drivers to their destinations – but sometimes these projects help connect workers from different sheds and even different districts. A recent project in District 2 showed how to build bridges between crews, while repairing a bridge over the Clearwater River.

Keeping bridges open keeps commerce moving
There are hundreds of bridges in Idaho that are posted for maximum loads, particularly during the spring thaw. However, restricting loads also restricts economic opportunity and mobility, so ITD’s Bridge Asset Management team started reaching out to the owners of those structures in an effort to change that.
Mobility Innovation - DEPP
Work to improve 511 system results in three-year innovation streak
The ITD Innovation program highlights the cream of the crop. Efforts to enhance the 511 Traveler Services web page are always in the running for "Mobility" enhancement, and this year is no exception.
