Oh, that sinking feeling
Monday night (May 6) ITD maintenance crews responded to a great depression on Idaho 78 east of Givens Hot Springs, near Marsing. The culprits, as they were in the tragic death last summer of Sonia Lopez, were gophers that undermined the roadway, causing the surface to weaken and sag.

Delegates from throughout the U.S., Canada and abroad converged in Boise this week for four concurrent technology expositions: the 26th annual Geospatial Information Systems for Transportation symposium, AASHTO’s Administrative Subcommittee on Information Systems (ASIS), the Transportation Research Board and a Business Intelligence Peer Review.

It now uses Quest Construction Data Network (QuestCDN) services to bring contractors online digital project advertisements and digital project bidding documents.

Encore (5-3-13): Blowing dust, low visibility plague eastern Idaho
In a more tropical climate, Monday’s relentless wind might have prompted a hurricane warning. But eastern Idaho is much drier; and instead of torrential rains, the sky was filled with dust … so much dust driving became hazardous and highways were closed.

As temperatures continue to warm, many Idaho travelers are trading their cars and trucks for motorcycles and scooters. ITD and its safety partners encourage motorists to “Look Twice for Motorcycles” - a reminder that will be shared with hundreds of riders at free events Saturday (May 4) at safety rallies across the state for Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.

Encore (5-3-13): ITD claims Capital City Communicators awards
ITD’s Public Outreach Planner (POP) tool was chosen as one of the area’s outstanding communication efforts of 2012, winning an IMPACT award at Friday night’s Capital City Communicators ceremony. ITD’s Office of Communications also received an award for a highway safety story.
