Board members consider report on research projects, plans
ITD plans to launch a study of multi-modal freight movement on the U.S. 95 corridor in Idaho as part of its strategic plan commitment to help the state’s economy grow. Other research projects planned for the coming year include a study of vehicle crashes, an evaluation of fiber-reinforced asphalt and an evaluation of traffic signal detection system performances.

District 3's Carl Vaughn named Maintenance Person of the Year
ITD honored Carl Vaughn, lead worker for District 3’s Hammett area, as the 2013 Maintenance Person of the Year for his tireless efforts to provide safe travel. The selection was announced at last week’s Transportation Board meeting in Boise by retiring Chief Engineer Tom Cole.

Idaho implements the Commercial Skills Test System
As part of its continuing efforts to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving large trucks and buses, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is working with the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) to reduce fraud. It recently introduced a new Commercial Skills Test Information Management System (CSTIMS) to improve safety.

Encore (11-22-13): Aeronutics industry taking flight in northern Idaho
The Idaho Statesman: North Idaho College opened a new training center in an effort to prepare students for work in regional aerospace businesses. The Aerospace Center for Excellence, which operates in a converted pole barn near the Coeur d'Alene Airport, has 40 students enrolled.
