Transportation Board
ITD housing, Capital Mall road improvements and department service awards will top board agenda
A report on the status of state-owned dwellings and requests for road improvements at the Capital Mall and an economic hardship waiver for Potlatch Corp. will lead discussion at the transportation board's March 19 meeting at Headquarters. The group will host ITD's semiannual service awards program, beginning at 10 a.m., with transportation board member Julie DeLorenzo serving as speaker.

Headquarters' service awards to be presented at March Board meeting
The Idaho Transportation Board will honor 40 employees and 17 retirees next week during the March business meeting at Headquarters in Boise. The semiannual Headquarters Employee Service Awards program is planned for Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the auditorium with a reception, sponsored by DoRolCo, to follow in the lobby.

D-1 employees scour old records to help family define water rights
A question related to a family's water rights put two District 1 employees on the hunt for old documents pertaining to a waterline crossing in north Idaho. Terry Troutman, D1 transportation technician principal, and district Property Manager Yvonne Dingman culled through documents more than 40 years old searching for information on behalf of the Jutila family.

Jensen, Schroeder nominated for WASHTO Hewes Award
Two ITD employees have been nominated for one of the highest awards bestowed by the Western Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (WASHTO). Amy Schroeder and Dennis Jensen have each been nominated for the Dr. L.I. Hewes award that recognizes outstanding contributions to the highway development program by an individual actively engaged in highway development in the West with a WASHTO state organization.

Highway Safety
Highway Safety seat belt survey results for 2013 released
Idaho recently completed and published the seat belt survey for 2013. A total of 32,251 vehicle occupants, comprised of 25,597 drivers and 6,654 outboard passengers, were observed. Seventy percent (70%) of the vehicles were cars, vans, or Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) while 30 percent were pick-up trucks. Find out how the state has progressed

Middleton says thanks for ITD efforts to reduce congestion
ITD restriped a center turn lane in Middleton last week, with the promise to return to touch up anything that needed more attention in a couple of weeks. Middleton Mayor Darin Taylor made a point of reaching out to say thanks. The city requested the change to relieve congestion and improve safety in town, especially near the middle school.

Rising water keeps ITD crews watchful
Springtime flooding, or the threat of it, is as much a part of ITD¹s existence each year as Rock Patrol or Avalanche Control. During March, rivers statewide encroach on flood stage, threatening to overflow their banks and send water spilling onto roads and undermining highways annually.

A fantastic deal on a car or truck advertised online, in a classified ad or parked on a street may not be so great if the seller doesn't have a motor vehicle title in his name to assign to you. In fact, purchasing or selling a vehicle without a proper title can get you in trouble, advises Barry Takeuchi, title program specialist with Idaho Transportation Department's Division of Motor Vehicles.

Encore (3-7-14) POE inspectors assist injured Great Horned Owl
When CJ Williams and Dan Kelley returned to a Roving Port of Entry site on Idaho 78 near Bruneau to inspect commercial vehicles in late February, they noticed something different. A Great Horned Owl that they had come to know and had established a year-round residence in a group of trees nearby was noticeably absent.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx recently used his FastLane blog to call on tech-savvy and creative individuals across the country to come up with a new technology tool, such as a mobile application or web-based device, that will revolutionize "the way Americans see and understand the transportation system they use every day."
