Leadership Summit
Third Leadership Summit focuses on building the culture for a better Idaho
Compelling speakers, thought-provoking group activities and even a game show were just part of the Idaho Transportation Department’s 2014 Leadership Summit. Some 170 ITD employees from across the state attended the third agency summit, with its focus on “building the culture for a better Idaho,” on Aug. 12. Kicking off at 7:30 a.m., the day-long conference included a mix of speakers and activities.

Transportation Board
Transportation board will travel to Districts 3 and 4 for August meeting
The transportation board will conduct a tour of Districts 3 and 4 during its Aug. 20-21 meeting. The tour bus will depart Headquarters Wednesday morning, Aug. 20 and travel to Stanley on Idaho 55, the Banks-Lowman Highway, and Idaho 21. Several stops will be made along the way.

Opening of new Idaho 16 extension and bridge features skydivers, Corvette rides
As many as 300 people came out to celebrate the completion of a massive new bridge across the Boise River and the extension of Idaho 16 south from State Street (Idaho 44) to a connection with Chinden Blvd (U.S. 20/26) on Friday (Aug. 15) at a formal ribbon cutting.

Veterans gather at Statehouse for renaming of Interstate 84
Interstate 84 has formally been renamed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway. A ceremony on the Idaho Statehouse steps Aug. 12 officially recognized the designation and was attended by veterans and their family members and also by Idaho Senators Jim Risch and Mike Crapo.

Highway Safety
ITD encourages employers to help stop distracted driving
Employers may be some of the best safety partners when it comes to combating distracted driving. The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD), Idaho Power, Franklin Building Supply and KTVB/KTFT are leading the way by enacting policies that ban or restrict use of hand-held electronic communication devices and cell phones while in a company vehicle or in a personal vehicle with a company-issued cell phone.

Encore (8-8-14) Work to migrate email begins Aug. 15
Migration of your email to “Exchange on-line” is almost here, with plans to make that changeover Aug. 15. If issues come up at that time, then the change will take place Aug. 22.On the Monday following the changeover, computer-based Outlook email users will be prompted to enter their Office 365 user ID and password when they first open their Outlook programs.

Encore (8-8-14) New app speeds up sign data collection in District 1
Two Idaho Transportation Department District 1 employees have been honored for designing and implementing an innovative tool that streamlines the process for installing signs and collecting inventory data.Geographic Information System Analyst Alice Pence and her supervisor Ryan Hawkins, a traffic engineer, were recognized by the Innovate ITD campaign for developing a web-based application that instantly collects and updates sign installation data.

Encore (8-8-14) Birds and girders, revisited: Classic mismatch as ITD clears hurdles to arrive at Aug. 15 ribbon cutting
The great blue heron is about 4 feet tall and weighs in at maybe 6 pounds. The bridge is more than 1,720 feet long, 88 feet wide and tips the scales at 38 million pounds. Not since Oscar and Felix in the "Odd Couple" has there been a more striking difference.

Encore (8-8-14) Three from southeast Idaho will represent ITD as top equipment operators at regionals
Three local southeast Idaho people will represent the Idaho Transportation Department as the top equipment operators at a western regional snow and ice competition in September.Matt Beckstead, of ITD's Preston maintenance shed, Dan Daniels of Malad maintenance, and Pocatello's Bruce Dial will make the trip as the top statewide representative from Idaho.

Encore (8-8-14) USDOT earns A+ for small business support
Last Friday (Aug. 1), the Small Business Administration announced that, in Fiscal Year 2013, the federal government reached a key goal for the first time in eight years, with agencies awarding 23.5 percent of their contracts to U.S. small businesses.
