Board Summary
The Aug. 20-21 board tour started in Boise and ended in Stanley. A stop along the Banks-to-Lowman Highway allowed the board to view a slope-scaling project underway and the installation of permanent rockfall-hazard mitigation measures. The project to address the rockfall problem includes work on five separate slopes.

Highways
Mud, water overrun Idaho 21 and Idaho 25 culverts
Culverts on Idaho 21 north of Idaho City and on Idaho 25 near Eden were overwhelmed in mid-August by water, mud and other debris in the aftermath of significant rains. On Idaho 21, approximately seven miles north of Idaho City between Rabbit Creek Road and Banks-Lowman Road, mudslide and debris closed the roadway the evening of Aug. 13. Public transportation group to meet Sept. 4
The Public Transportation Advisory Committee (PTAC) will introduce its new District 3 chairperson and discuss funding and mobility topics Thursday (Sept. 4). The meeting will be at 9 a.m. in the Idaho Transportation Department's auditorium at 3311 W. State St. in Boise. The meeting is open to the public.

ITD board appoints Maureen Gresham to Public Transportation Advisory Council
The appointment of Maureen Gresham to the Public Transportation Advisory Council (PTAC) was made during a transportation board business meeting held Aug. 21 in Stanley. Each ITD district is represented and she joins four current members. PTAC's mission is to foster public transportation for all Idahoans across the statewide transportation system by working to increase local and intercity services.

ITD serves up information, public outreach at Western Idaho Fair
Amid vendors hawking plenty of fried fair food and sales representatives touting their latest products, the Idaho Transportation Department once again returned to the Western Idaho Fair, offering up valuable information about vehicle and driver services, highway safety and about any other road-related topic.

Bush sends kudos to Drivers Services
One of the reported advantages of social media is it immediacy. As this story shows, however, that¹s not always the case. In mid-May, a message on the ITD Facebook page from Greg Bush said, "You guys are totally awesome! I have never received such professional, courteous and caring service from anywhere! Thank you for your assistance."

Highways
ITD highway work will be suspended statewide for Labor Day holiday
Work that could impact travel will be suspended on all Idaho Transportation Department highway construction projects statewide for the Labor Day holiday, except in special circumstances. Crews working on the Gowen Road Interchange reconstruction plan to work over the weekend, with the understanding they will not impede traffic.

Encore: (8-22-14) Boss Lift recognizes ITD's support of Idaho National Guard
It's not everyday that someone outside of the National Guard has the opportunity to ride in a Blackhawk helicopter or cruise in a Humvee. However, Idaho Transportation Department's Juan Oleaga, a manager in the project management office, did just that, thanks to his employee Derek Roy.

2014 Leadership Summit
Encore: (8-22-14) Third Leadership Summit focuses on building the culture for a better Idaho
Compelling speakers, thought-provoking group activities and even a game show were just part of the Idaho Transportation Department’s 2014 Leadership Summit. Some 170 ITD employees from across the state attended the third agency summit, with its focus on “building the culture for a better Idaho,” on Aug. 12. Kicking off at 7:30 a.m., the day-long conference included a mix of speakers, all of whom focused on how every employee can develop and contribute to a better workplace culture.

Encore: (8-22-14) Raney warns of complacency
Ada County Sheriff Gary Raney has been with the Ada County Sheriff’s Office since 1983. Sworn in as sheriff in 2005, Raney is responsible for the largest law enforcement agency in Idaho with around 650 employees and a $60 million budget. Raney told the audience of Idaho Transportation Department employees during the 2014 Leadership Summit that the “cancer of complacency”-if left untreated, can kill an organization.

Encore: (8-22-14) Good culture comes down to basics
Boise State University Broncos Head Football Coach Bryan Harsin believes a good culture can come down to the basics, like showing up to work on time and prepared. Hired as the head coach in Dec. 2013 at Boise State, Harsin is a former Bronco quarterback, and a former member of the coaching staff from 2001 to 2010. He also completed a coaching stint at Texas and at Arkansas State.
