Time has come for Annex capsule to be opened Tuesday, Dec. 9
The late 1980s gave us a gallon of gas for under one dollar, first episodes of “The Simpsons,” the screaming-fast 486 series of microprocessor from Intel and Microsoft’s first version of its beloved Office software. Those years also gave ITD employees an opportunity to plant a time capsule in 1989, during the dedication of a grove of trees donated by the University of Idaho and located near the East Annex. It is 25 years later, and time to unearth the container.

Many recreational pilots consider the Johnson Creek airstrip, just beyond McCall near Yellow Pine, to be one of the crown jewels of Idaho’s stable of backcountry destinations. Count Chris McCrank among those fans.

Lewiston Hill resurfacing slated to begin in late spring or early summer 2015
Resurfacing of a seven-mile stretch of U.S. 95 on Lewiston Hill in D2 will begin between mid-April and mid-May 2015. The work is expected to last approximately three months, ending in late summer. The Lewiston Hill was opened in 1977.

District 3’s road-clearing efforts publicly recognized
ITD takes great pride in clearing the roads and ensuring safe travel for area motorists. It is one of our key performance measures, and an area in which the department consistently excels.  Those efforts are not always recognized, but Connie Behee, for one, notices.

Rawls and Oien go above and beyond to resolve license issue in aftermath of Oakland gunpoint robbery
Being robbed has ramifications that reverberate well beyond the initial incident, a reality known all too well by Rick and Becky Groff. There are some intangibles that are taken in a robbery, such as a sense of safety and security and your faith in the common decency of people. There are also some very real things taken, such as wallets containing credit cards and identification, needed to get life back on track.

Encore (11-27-14): National awards illustrate ITD's commitment to serving public
The Idaho Transportation Department stands among the elite transportation departments in the country for the second year in a row, demonstrating fulfillment of important commitments to Gem State citizens. During the past year, ITD worked to provide its customers good service, safe travel on state highways and economic opportunity. As a public agency, recognition of these efforts by a national industry organization shows ITD’s performance in these areas.

Encore (11-27-14): Work to begin on pedestrian- and bicyclist-friendly Greensferry Overpass in Post Falls Dec. 1
Year-long construction of the Greensferry Overpass in Post Falls is expected to begin in early December. The project will build a new bridge spanning Interstate 90 and Schneidmiller Avenue on the south side of the freeway. The project will improve connectivity, traffic mobility and emergency response between the business districts and residential areas north and south of the interstate. The entire project is expected to finish next fall.

Encore (11-27-14): Annual vegetation meeting in Idaho Falls features training, best practices
D6 hosted the annual vegetation meeting Oct. 28-30 showcasing specific industry training and attracting more than 35 attendees. The meeting featured presenters from the chemical industry (pesticide/herbicide), representatives from county, state and federal agencies and various ITD personnel.

Encore (11-27-14): ITD employees earn kudos for work on Impaired Driving Task Force
Impaired driving in Idaho remains a significant highway safety problem, so an Impaired Driving Task Force was created in February. Fatalities resulting from impaired-driving crashes increased in 2013 by 32 percent, and 45 percent of all fatalities resulted from impaired driving.

Encore (11-27-14): ITD Communications collaborates with Highway Safety to create new holiday campaign
The Office of Highway Safety is working closely with ITD’s Communications Department to create new and inventive campaigns for upcoming mobilizations – most recently the statewide Impaired Driving Holiday Mobilization beginning Nov. 27, 2014 and ending Jan. 4, 2015.

Encore (11-27-14): Treasure Valley students learn about highways and big trucks
Approximately 40 Treasure Valley homeschoolers braved cold temperatures Nov. 12, to learn about what the Idaho Transportation Department’s maintenance crew does to keep our roads safe and clear when winter hits the Treasure Valley.
