30 Years Ago (May 1985): Idaho has the fewest potholes in the U.S.
A recent survey of the Road Information Program (TRIP), a Washington, D.C.-based transportation research group, indicates that Idaho has the lowest number of potholes on its 5,000-mile state highway system than any other state.

Project begins on U.S. 95 Lewiston Hill May 18
A deep pavement rehabilitation will begin May 18 on the U.S. 95 Lewiston Hill, affecting both the north- and southbound lanes through the project’s expected completion in early September. This section of road carries more than 10,000 vehicles per day.

Survey shows $1 billion spent, 8 million hours logged and 6 million tons of salt used to battle winter
According to a first-of-its-kind "Winter Maintenance Operations Survey" conducted by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, 23 reporting states spent approximately $1.131 billion from October 2014 to mid-April 2015 to pre-treat, plow roads or spread chemicals and other materials on roadways to keep them open and operating safely this winter season.

Garden City’s West Pedestrian Bridge linking south side to north side of Boise River placed
Garden City’s West Pedestrian Bridge, a 180-foot by 12-foot pedestrian and bicycle bridge, was set into place May 1. The project, administered by District 3, with a combination of federal and local funding sources, will provide a vital Greenbelt link between the newly constructed 3.2 miles of greenbelt on the south side of the river to the north side of the Boise River.

ITD removes old gas station along U.S. 20 in Thornton
District 6 maintenance crews removed an old Shell gas station/convenience store Monday (May 4) in preparation for constructing the Thornton interchange on U.S. 20 just north of Thornton next year.

IWG teleconference May 13 will cover recent public transportation legislative action
Statutes and policies related to public transportation, resulting from the Idaho Legislature’s recent session, will be the subject of a teleconference for Idaho’s Interagency Working Group (IWG) Wednesday, May 13.

Encore (05-01-15): Moscow, Potlatch crews build frame-mounted flusher to save truck bodies
Last year, ITD’s District 2 office received a fleet of new Mack 10-wheeled trucks for use in maintenance, and preserving the 52 new trucks was paramount.

Encore (05-01-15): 21 Years Ago (July/Aug. 1994): ITD videos are no longer low budget
Last year, Highway Safety and ITD’s video production facility won a Silver Rocky award from the Idaho Advertising Federation for best public service announcement. The winning campaign focused in the importance of using seat belts.

Encore (05-01-15): ITD's Communications office garners record 12 awards
ITD's communication efforts earned a dozen awards from the Idaho Press Club in their "Best of 2014" awards Saturday night, April 25, in Boise. Six of the 12 awards were for first-place efforts in various public affairs and public relations categories.
