From Idaho Department of Health & Welfare: Smoke from wildfires in Idaho and neighboring states is affecting the air quality in nearly every Idaho community in the northern and southwestern parts of the state, and officials from public health and environmental quality are reminding residents to be aware of the conditions so they can take precautions.

Karsann praised for highway-safety response
A call to report hazardous road conditions was fielded by District 1’s Robin Karsann in mid-October 2014. The caller had no expectations that her complaint would be taken seriously. Karsann’s response, and the district’s action, however, left the caller dumbfounded.

Department geologists
ITD's Buu continues history of strong showing by department geotechs
Since 1975, ITD’s geologists and geotechnical engineer have participated in the Northwest Geotechnical Workshop, held annually by the 10 northwest states. The 40th workshop was recently held in Gleneden Beach, Ore. in early August, with Tri Buu earning the prestigious Mr. Northwest Geotech Award for contributions to the industry. It was just the latest recognition for ITD’s award-winning geotechs.

From the ITD Vault: Gas Prices High?
Gas prices in 1975 reached an average of 53 cents per gallon — an unacceptable spike from 39 cents per gallon the year before. Today, those spikes are an everyday occurrence, but they were cause for major concern 40 years ago.

Idaho State Police
ISP conducting enhance patrols at rail crossings in south-central Idaho
The Idaho State Police will continue to conduct "Adopt a Crossing" an enhanced traffic enforcement operation at railroad crossings in Twin Falls and Jerome counties. The increased patrols began in July and will continue through Sept. 12.

Encore (08-14-15): District saves wandering, starving baby bald eaglet
The District 1 office in Coeur d'Alene helped save a baby Bald Eaglet July 31, connecting the starving, perhaps stunned young raptor with the Prairie Animal Hospital and ultimately the Birds of Prey Northwest for rehabilitation.

Encore (08-14-15): New DMV online app allows instant check of vehicle title status
Check the status of your motor vehicle title online and for free using a new Vehicle Title Status Checker app recently launched by ITD’s Division of Motor Vehicles. The new online feature allows DMV customers, auto dealers, banks and county motor vehicle offices to instantly check the status of an Idaho motor vehicle title application.
