Three eastern Idaho counties with zero fatalities recognized by board
Three eastern Idaho counties in the Idaho Transportation Department’s District 6 region recorded no highway fatalities in 2014, and those efforts to keep travelers safe on Idaho highways were recognized by the Idaho Transportation Board Sept. 16 at the ITD D6 office in Rigby.

Idaho Aeronautics receives national safety award
Idaho’s Division of Aeronautics won the prestigious Aviation Education Award at the recent National Association of State Aviation Officials annual conference in Boise for a safety initiative at Idaho’s most popular backcountry airstrip, the Johnson Creek Airstrip near Yellow Pine, a small village east of McCall.

East Boise gateway interchanges dedicated Sept. 15
With the completion of both the Broadway and Gowen Interchanges in east Boise on the near horizon, the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce and Treasure Valley leaders commemorated the occasion with a dedication ceremony on Sept. 15.

Hawkins finds Magstadt wedding ring, earns undying gratitude
On Sept. 10, Suzanne Hawkins of ITD’s Financial Services section found an item of tremendous sentimental value at the east entrance to the headquarters building and turned it in to Building Services. It remained unclaimed for several days. The owner was well aware that it was missing, but not at all aware that it had slipped off at work.

ITD Vault 25 Years Ago (Oct./Nov. 1990): Profiler to measure road wear, ruts
Department engineers believe they have a great new tool for collecting pavement management data required by the Federal Highway Administration. It’s a deceptively simple profiler that uses Polaroid camera technology to measure pavement roughness. The South Dakota Road Profiler is the next generation of pavement-roughness measuring equipment, which will also measure rut depths at highway speeds.

Encore (09-18-15): I-84 daytime lane reductions avoided
Through the 11th-hour efforts of ITD and the contractor (Concrete Placing Company), daytime lane reductions on a heavily traveled stretch of I-84 have been avoided. Crews will complete rebuilding the outside lanes and shoulders at the Meridian Interchange with only additional nighttime lane reductions.
