D1's Beachler creates weather app to help maintenance forces plan manpower and equipment
The first round of winter weather has already hit in many regions around the state, putting a premium on quick, appropriate response by ITD maintenance crews. District 1 GIS Analyst Robert Beachler has created a Web App to help ITD take the next step in its winter road-clearing efforts.

ITD's 511 system celebrates decade of service to Idaho travelers
Just before the first snowfall and Thanksgiving travel a decade ago, the 511 travelers service was unveiled, bringing a new level of service and trip preparation to Idaho drivers. Ten years and more than 22.5 million visits after that November day in 2005, an enhanced 511 service thrives.

Trail along U.S. 93 south of Salmon receives funding
Salmon and Lemhi County get a new trail, to run along the west side of U.S. 93 between Salmon and Shoup Bridge. Local officials and residents identified a need for it, and transportation authorities are making the $1.43-million trail a priority.

Partnership between ITD and BLM reduces fires in southwest Idaho
Recognizing the high cost and impact of fires in Idaho, the Idaho Transportation Department and the Bureau of Land Management are continuing their partnership to reduce fire starts along Interstate 84 in southwest Idaho.

As construction of the Meridian Road Interchange winds down, the Meridian Chamber of Commerce and Treasure Valley leaders marked the occasion with a lunch and ribbon-cutting ceremony Oct. 29.

Encore (11-13-15): WASHTO's new secretary should look familiar to ITD staffers
When Idaho Transportation Director Brian Ness was named president of the Western Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (WASHTO) in July, one of his first tasks was to select a WASHTO secretary to help him keep tabs on the 18-state regional organization. He could have picked an engineer, a communication professional or anyone from inside or outside his staff. He chose his current assistant, Carla Anderson.

Encore (11-13-15): Drive safe this Thanksgiving and buckle up
Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel times of the year, with more people on the road increasing likelihood of crashes. The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) encourages everyone to drive safe and buckle up. "More than half the drivers and passengers being killed in crashes aren't wearing seat belts," said Sherry Jenkins, with ITD.
