N. Idaho crew excels in aftermath of traffic-control cabinet demolition
ITD’s northern Idaho crews were at their finest in the aftermath of a high-speed chase Feb. 7 in the Coeur d’Alene area (Northwest Blvd. and Ironwood Dr.) that demolished a signal box.

ITD studying whether width of stripes improve driver safety
The Idaho Transportation Department is studying the correlation between the width of highway stripes and the visibility for drivers, to potentially improve the safety of motorists on Gem State roads. A three-year study is underway in north-central Idaho between ITD and the University of Idaho to do just that.

Idaho tow truck companies encourage sober driving with rolling displays
The consequences of an impaired driving crash will be on display during March in Twin Falls, Coeur d’Alene and Boise when tow truck operators in these cities will transport crashed cars around their areas to help raise awareness about making safe choices when celebrations and activities involve drinking.

Civil Rights to offer trainings in each district in March for new diversity software
ITD’s Civil Rights section will put on free B2GNow (Business-to-Government) user trainings in every district this month, in advance of a “go live” date of April 4 on new diversity tracking software for online payment reporting. Morning sessions (8-10 a.m.) will be tailored for groups outside of ITD, while afternoon sessions (1-3 p.m.) will be for ITD staff.

Grants of up to $60,000 available through April 1 from Idaho ADA Curb Ramp Program
Grants of up to $60,000 are available to organizations statewide through April 1 through the Idaho Americans with Disabilities Act Curb Ramp Program. Local jurisdictions — cities, counties and highway districts — and tribal governments are eligible to submit an application.

From the ITD Vault 30 years ago (1986): Mica Hill project straightens goat trail"
Another stretch of U.S. 95, "the band that ties this state together," was dedicated Wednesday, Oct. 30. The 2.75-mile Mica Hill project as lauded at ceremonies led by Governor John Evans and Transportation Board Chairman Carl Moore.

Encore (02-26-16): Sablan named AASHTO Fellow
Kevin Sablan, ITD’s State Design/Traffic Services Engineer, has been awarded a 2016 AASHTO Transportation Management Fellowship and will spend the next year in Washington, D.C., working on engineering and transportation policy issues. He will live and work in the nation‘s capital starting March 28.

Encore (02-26-16): Northern Idaho crews extend kindnesss to Lady amid disaster
This winter has been rough in northern Idaho, with strong winds knocking down trees across highways and causing a week-long blackout in November, and a blizzard earlier this month, a smaller cousin to the massive storm that that crippled the East Coast. Several regional areas have been declared disaster areas. In the midst of the devastation, ITD crews showed extreme compassion, which did not go unnoticed.
