Grant given special commendation by Office of Highway Safety for career of assistance
ITD houses a tremendous asset on Headquarters' second floor. Steve Grant has been particularly valuable to the Office of Highway Safety, to whom he has served as liaison for the better part of a decade, so at the service awards April 27, OHS Manager John Tomlinson presented Grant with a special award of thanks.

ITD’s Karsann promotes wildflowers and litter control at Coeur d’Alene’s Earth Day celebration April 24
Robin Karsann, District 1's Adopt-A-Highway coordinator, represented ITD's northern Idaho office on its Earth Day, celebration April 24 at the Coeur d'Alene library. There were many informational packets, color books,"Click it, Don't Risk it!" trash bags and additional information on ITD's Operations Wildflower program. There was a lot of information sharing, and the district received five new applications and a review of the website as well.

Customer Service Gateway
ITD offers construction consultants, contractors new business tool
New technology will help make it easier for construction consultants and contractors to do business with the Idaho Transportation Department. The new “Customer Service Gateway” program allows more direct access to the AASHTOWare Project SiteManager software program that is used to manage the department’s construction activities statewide.

ITD earns record-breaking 13 Idaho Press Club awards
Staff members from ITD’s Office of Communication (and Governmental Affairs) won a record-breaking 13 Idaho Press Club awards at the annual competition. The awards were handed out April 30 in Boise.

Board reviews funding distributions, elects new vice chairman, hears annual reports
The Idaho Transportation Board workshop on April 27 summarized the FY16 program, reviewed changes in pavement and bridge conditions, and recommended funding distributions for FY21.

Statewide seat belt enforcement campaign set for May 16-30
Protecting lives and reducing serious injury from motor-vehicle crashes may be as simple as clicking a seat belt, so the Idaho Transportation Department is supporting efforts to increase Idahoans’ safety restraint use May 16-30.

Encore (04-29-16): New platforms provide osprey housing, enable bridge safety inspections
The Federal Highway Administration requires an inspection of the Dent Bridge on the Clearwater River north of Orofino every two years, but ITD could not inspect the overhead cable saddles because of nesting osprey, which are federally protected migratory birds. The solution was an environmentally responsible innovation.

Encore (04-29-16): South Valley Connector wins another Project of the Year award
The South Valley Connector project in Pocatello picked up a second “Project of the Year” award last week, being named the Institute of Transportation Engineers (Intermountain Chapter) award winner April 21. The project had previously been named American Public Works Association Rocky Mountain Chapter Project of the Year.
