With landslide cleared, Idaho 14 reopens to traffic as crews rise to challenge
Every few decades, a defining moment comes along that requires the Idaho Transportation Department to react even more swiftly and decisively than usual, in the interest of public safety and restored mobility. The most recent episode for the agency came in the form of a massive landslide west of north-central Idaho’s Elk City in February.

North Idaho riders thank ITD for safety efforts
The Kootenai Chapter of ABATE of North Idaho, of Hayden, took time out a few weeks ago to thank ITD for its involvement in the posting of readerboard signs on Interstate 90 and U.S. 95 reminding drivers to “Look Twice for Motorcycles. They Are Everywhere.”

Using stream and streambed temperature sensors to monitor bridge-foundation erosion shows promise as low-cost method
Scour — the removal of the sediment around bridge piers and footings by fast-moving water – can compromise the stability of bridge piers, levee foundations, or structure footings. Monitoring scour condition is vital for timely and effective detection of problems. Figuring out how to combat scour is a top priority for ITD and for transportation departments nationwide.

Grangeville paving work praised by locals
A letter was sent to Knife River Corp.’s South Idaho headquarters in Boise at the end of August from Sam & Carol Yalbow of Grangeville, praising the contractor for the recent repaving done on U.S. 95 from W. South 1st Street to Johnston Road, and on Grangeville Main Street (Idaho 13).

Idaho Division of Aeronautics
Division of Aeronautics wins national award for quarter-century of outreach to teens for careers in aviation
Idaho's Division of Aeronautics was recently recognized for 25 years of dedication to reaching out to teenagers throughout the Gem State and presenting career options in the field of aviation. In a quarter century, the Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy presented career options to more than 650 Idaho teenagers.

District 6 Hosts 3D Modeling and Automated Machine Guidance Workshop Sept. 13-14
ITD’s District 6 office hosted a workshop on 3D Modeling and Automated Machine Guidance Sept. 13-14, serving approximately 120 attendees, including about 20 engineering students from nearby BYU-Idaho. The workshop was funded by a State Transportation Innovation Council (STIC) grant, representing the first phase of the $122,000 stimulus.

Encore (09-16-16): Broadway Bridge opens Sept. 9 as ceremony welcomes community across new bridge
Just nine months after construction began, Boise’s Broadway Bridge opened to the public Sept. 9. The official opening, hosted by Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) District 3 Board Member Julie DeLorenzo, concluded with dignitaries including ITD Director Brian Ness, Boise Mayor Dave Bieter, Boise State President Dr. Bob Kustra and others pulling barriers on the bridge and opening it to traffic.
