IDAHO AGENCY UNLEASHES THE POWER OF INNOVATION TO TACKLE HIGHWAY CHALLENGES By Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter Even before the Great Recession, Idaho’s highways and bridges were struggling under the weight of a huge maintenance and repair backlog and a serious long-term funding shortfall. While I wrestled with legislators and stakeholders about how to address the challenges, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) took the bull by the horns, adopting a more innovative and efficient approach to building and maintaining the state’s transportation system.

District 2 - Innovation
District 2 adopts D1 scanner idea for latest "Times 7" innovation initiative
One of the main pushes of the ITD innovation program is to spread innovations beyond the district boundaries where the idea first took root. A great idea that saves time and money should not stay siloed in the first spot where it was created — it should live on in our other districts and divisions around the state, where it can save time and money there, too.

I-90 project advancement, employee service awards to highlight March 15-16 board meeting
The request to advance a pavement-repair project in north Idaho and employee service awards will highlight the March 15-16 Idaho Transportation Board Meeting in Boise. A workshop will be held in the East Annex Conference Room March 15, with the regular meeting following the next day in the Headquarters Auditorium at 3311 W. State Street.

District 2
Work on East Kooskia Bridge finishes early
With crews working long hours and the weekend, work on the East Kooskia Bridge finished ahead of time and the bridge opened to travel Feb. 28, at least a week early. The improvements allowed ITD to boost the bridge's load-carrying capacity from 6,000 lb. Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) to 16-20 tons GVW, depending on axles.

Trump Continues Push for Congress to Pass Major Infrastructure Investment Package
President Trump in his speech to a joint session of Congress repeated his goal of seeing Congress pass a $1-trillion infrastructure investment package, and compared the vision to that of President Eisenhower in creating the interstate highway network.
