Innovation in inspection of overhead sign structures saves $320K annually
There are nearly 2,000 overhead sign structures on the state highway system, and more than a quarter of them are inspected each year. Finding even a slight savings in the per-unit cost can result in a significant overall savings, and that’s just what the ITD Bridge Asset Management team has done.

District 3 completes I-84 repairs, paving in Canyon County
District 3 and its contractor successfully completed repaving a heavily traveled section of Interstate 84 in Canyon County over the course of just four weekends this summer—wrapping up the project over the second weekend in July.

A few years ago, ITD leadership noticed that great ideas generated out in the field weren't getting submitted into the innovation funnel. The main culprit was not an unwillingness, but rather just not knowing how. So to remove that barrier, innovation stewards were added in each district to facilitate the submission of ideas.

Public Transportation Survey to provide solutions by late fall
A survey of thousands of Idahoans statewide this spring gave a profile for the average public transit user and identified gaps in service or needs in various geographic areas. Those results will be used to help shape solutions, expected by late fall.
