Eagle's Salmon rescue sheds light on fire extinguisher checks
Like cellphones, or most of us after a few late nights in a row, fire extinguishers need to be recharged periodically to be at their full potential. That was never more evident than the morning of August 7, as Salmon Maintenance Foreman Jeff Eagle raced to an overturned vehicle and the young girl screaming for help.

ITD Port of Entry inspectors from the East and West Boise facilities collaborated to put out a car fire at the port on Aug. 2, with help from a couple of truck drivers.

OHS and partners step up to the plate for safety
The Office of Highway Safety (OHS) has stepped up to the plate in its efforts to reduce impaired driving in Idaho. This year OHS teamed up with the Boise Hawks for the Labor Day Impaired Driving Mobilization.

Innovation - DEPP
Need for speed prompts bridge rating tool overhaul
Needing to reduce the amount of time spent on analyzing bridges for overweight permits, ITD's Bridge section set out to streamline the process. The result is an innovation that will save about 15 minutes per permit — with approximately 1,200 permits issued per year, this equates to approximately 300 hours saved.

Construction of the Snake River Bridge on Idaho Highway 51 near Bruneau continues, with girder placement scheduled for the end of the month.

Great ideas aren't always submitted into the innovation funnel. The ideas exist but are not shared. The main culprit is not an unwillingness, but rather just not knowing how.
