We recently celebrated State of Idaho Employee Appreciation week, so it was only fitting that the department and Idaho Transportation Board took the opportunity while in District 5 to celebrate the incredible longevity of one particular state employee.

Freeman wins District 3 truck roadeo again
Thirty-three transportation technicians gathered at a gravel source in Garden Valley to participate in the 2018 D3 Roadeo to kick off this year’s event season. Of the 33 competitors, a familiar name emerged at the top of the standings, again.

Shoshone's Stowell wins D4 roadeo
Last Thursday proved to be a glorious spring day in the south central region. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and a soft breeze occasionally danced across the asphalt as engines cranked and crowds cheered at the District 4 Annual Equipment Roadeo.

Moscow crew launches “Bud Bar” with homemade video
An injury by a transportation technician in one part of Idaho inspired an operations crew in another part to fix it and say something about it. After a rock got jammed in the tailgate of his truck, an employee injured his hand wrestling it loose. The injury happened a day before a leadership conference, so the story circulated among operations foremen — and it was too familiar.

ITD's Historical Photo Archive already viewed nearly 27,000 times
The free historical photo archive, unveiled to employees a few days before it was rolled out to the public May 1, has already been accessed nearly 27,000 times. The D6, D5, and HQ collections have so far generated the most activity.

District 1
Interstate 90 in North Idaho serves as emergency landing strip
Tuesday afternoon a plane was forced to use an eastbound lane of Interstate 90 over Lookout Pass as an emergency landing strip after reportedly catching a downdraft. Local news said the pilot walked away from the scene and no drivers on the ground were impacted during the crash-landing.

Statewide Project Collaboration Team launched for best practices in pavement
A Statewide Project Collaboration Team, made up of employees from all districts and headquarters, has joined together to capture ITD’s best practices on pavement rehabilitation projects. This select xx-member team has been working diligently since January to compile information.

Division of Aeronautics
An aviation search is not what you might think
During the Mother's Day weekend, Idaho's Division of Aeronautics initiated a search for a plane that went missing on its way from Boise to McCall. The search really began on May 14. There were three Civil Air Patrol aircraft flying that morning working in coordination with Aeronautics.
