Another significant step to ensure the safety of ITD employees working on the roadsides will take place July 1 as the "Move Over" law is expanded in Idaho to include responders to a roadside emergency, such as highway workers.

Moad steps in as new Idaho Transportation Board Chairman, replacing Whitehead
After a decade of service on the Idaho Transportation Board, Chairman Jerry Whitehead will step aside for newly appointed Bill Moad, who will preside over the monthly board meeting in July. Idaho Governor Brad Little announced the appointment of Moad on May 21.

ITD partners with law enforcement statewide for safer Independence Day
Independence Day is nearly here, and as many prepare for the fireworks and cookouts they are also being asked to prepare for a sober ride home. This Fourth of July holiday, ITD is partnering with law enforcement agencies across the state to remind Idahoans to drive sober or get pulled over.

Discussion of six legislative proposals for next session, the relinquishment of a portion of I-84B to Caldwell, a workshop on the draft ITIP, and commemoration of zero highway fatalities last year in Custer and Butte counties marked the recent Idaho Transportation Board meeting June 19-20.

Corette takes ITD for a spin
On June 13, Beth Schiller and I introduced Megan Corette to the wonderful world of ITD.  Megan, from Coeur d’ Alene, was visiting ITD as a participant in the Idaho Syringa Girls State Program. Through the program, high school girls work together as self-governing citizens, and have the opportunity to learn first-hand how their state and local government works.

New underpass in Moscow unveiled in May
While the department’s focus is usually centered on vehicles, this spring ITD engineers helped the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council oversee construction of a new underpass at Idaho Highway 8 and Styner Avenue in Moscow for bicyclists and pedestrians.
