Districts join forces to clean up US-95 slides
In August, it’s safe to say most drivers are only expecting construction delays on Idaho highways. But on Aug. 9 around 10:30 p.m., Fiddle Creek at milepost 200 near Riggins swelled past its banks and created a new channel, sending mud, rocks and power lines 4-5 feet deep onto US-95.

Hobdey-Sánchez honored by Governor Little for Red Tape Rampage
Before Governor Little’s Red Tape Reduction Act was even signed, ITD was in the process of closing out an 18-month project to consolidate administrative rules. Since last July, ITD has reduced its rules by 25%. At the center of the effort is Ramón Hobdey-Sánchez, rules coordinator for the Office of Governmental Affairs. Others have taken notice.

Best of the Best innovation voting now open!
FY19 was another great year for Innovate ITD. In five years, the department's innovation effort has produced some impressive results, and last year was no exception. Employee-driven innovations totalled more than $1.3 million in savings and efficiencies, with nearly 24,000 hours saved and close to 75 customer-service improvements. And best of all, more than 500 employees participated!

If you’ve spent any time on the second floor at Headquarters, you’ve probably run into Tabitha Smith. For more than seven years, she’s greeted visitors to ITD’s executive suite with a warm smile and friendly personality. For the last month, she has taken her passion for highway safety to a whole new level as the newest grants/contracts officer in the Office of Highway Safety.

Idaho Transportation Board
$821M appropriation, travel costs, public comments will highlight August board meeting
The August meeting of the Idaho Transportation Board next week will feature an expanded appropriation request, a summary of ITIP comments, and FY19 travel expenses. The monthly meeting will be held Aug. 21-22 in Coeur d'Alene.

POE enhancements improve economic opportunities for drivers
As part of DMV modernization efforts, the Compliance Program (which includes Ports of Entry) procured a web-based system to assist in credentialing motor carriers. During this acquisition, the POEs also found an opportunity to modernize their mainframe programs.

Traveler Info Service
511 system improvements help motorists
Idahos 511 Travel;er Information Service is heavily used by travelers - 4.5 million visits to the website last year, plus 1.3 million uses of the smartphone app - but continues to pursue improvements. These improvements enhance customer service and ultimately improve safety.
