McElhinney brings safety focus, customer-service mindset to new role as ITD’s Chief Operations Officer
Dan McElhinney, who has worked in the transportation field for more than three decades, managing numerous high-profile projects, will become ITD’s new Chief Operations Officer on August 10. McElhinney comes to ITD after 32 years with from the California Department of Transportation.

Innovate ITD selected as international "Big Impact" finalist
ITD's innovation effort, which thus far has turned 1,600 employee ideas into $11 million in savings for Idaho taxpayers, has again grabbed the attention of judges. Innovate ITD has been named an international finalist in the "Small Idea, Big Impact" category of the Gartner Awards. The contest received more than 200 entries from 30 different countries.

Paid parental leave for state employees goes into effect
A new policy with paid leave following the birth or adoption of a child goes into effect today (Wednesday, July 1) for all ITD employees. With the updated policy, employees may now take eight weeks of paid time away without pulling from sick or vacation hours. For Nic Huggins and new son, Colson, it couldn't have come at a better time.

Bridge Work
D1 bridge crew repairs structure over Johnson Creek after inspection finds erosion issues
Bridge inspectors make sure that the 4,200 bridges on local and state systems around the state are not only able to withstand repeated impacts from the traveling public, but they also identify maintenance measures that can be taken to keep structures in service longer. On the Johnson Creek structure on US-2, the bridge team found erosion issues.
