Charitable campaign gives opportunity
to show how much we care

An old maxim suggests that people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.

At a time of year when the need is greatest, Idaho’s state employees are asked to dig the deepest into their pockets to help charitable organizations statewide meet their clients’ needs. The Idaho State Employees Charitable Giving Campaign provides a formal means to share your resources with the less blessed.

Last year, state of Idaho employees donated $360,000 through the charitable giving campaign.

“Whether your passion s the environment, children or animals, there is an organization for everyone,” explains ITD coordinator Tammie Jauregui of the expanded charitable options this year.

Employees can download in .pdf format a pledge book that provides charitable organizations that are eligible to receive contributions from the statewide campaign. Organizations are arranged by region within Idaho and includes national organizations. The catalog lists hundreds of choices, including health and ethnic groups, religious groups and organizations that benefit children.

From the American Cancer Society and Wishing Star Foundation, to Special Olympics, Save the Children and Toys for Tots. From Habitat for Humanity and the Idaho Food Bank to Mothers Against Drunk Driving. The Hispanic Cultural Center, Black History Museum and Idaho Migrant Council.

Through a Memorandum of Understanding, leaders of the state employees campaign have selected United Way of the Treasure Valley to function as this year’s campaign administrator and fiscal agent. United Way has worked to make its online pledge system much easier to use than previously, Jauregui explains.

“The online option makes it possible for United Way to donate its 12 percent administrative fees back to the charities,” she says.

To pledge online, employees should go to http://www.sec.Idaho.gov . After providing basic registration information, employees should follow instructions to continue through the process. “The web site information walks you through it easily,” Jauregui said. “If you have difficulty, I will be glad to help you, but I recommend reading through the instructions first.”

After entering your information, be sure to print a copy and then send it to your respective coordinator (see list below). ITD’s Human Resource Services office cannot process the donation without a printed copy of your pledge.

Please use the online pledge option if at all possible to expedite the process and reduce administrative costs.

Those who pledge one-half percent of their salary will receive a Governor’s Silver Leadership certificate; pledging 1 percent of your salary will earn Gold Leadership recognition and a token of appreciation.

By partnering with associations and federations, charities avoid costs associated with advertising, direct mail and telephone solicitation. As a result, more of all donations to a charitable organization go directly to its mission.
