session provided opportunities
for building greater understanding
The
Legislature wrapped up its 2007 session
late Friday by approving $250 million
in bonding authority for Idaho’s
GARVEE (Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle)
program. Legislators worked extra hours
with staff from the governor’s office
and the transportation department to produce
a compromise bill that keeps the GARVEE
program moving forward.

ITD
employees try to revive heart attack victim
Two ITD employees worked valiantly to revive a
62-year-old man stricken by a heart attack while
driving through a work zone Monday. Despite the
efforts of John Richmond and Ken Puderbaugh, the
Bozeman man was pronounced dead where his vehicle
left the road near milepost 96, about one mile
west of Lowell.

Annual
safety summit scheduled Wednesday
Nearly 200 safety professionals and law enforcement
officials from throughout Idaho will learn more
about the latest trends in traffic safety Wednesday
(April 11) during the Idaho 2007 Highway Safety
Summit. The summit is sponsored by the ITD’s
Office of Highway Operations and Safety and will
be at the Doubletree-Riverside Hotel in Boise

Development
conference focuses on partnerships
The 2007 ITD Project Development Conference, staged
Wednesday and Thursday in Boise, was a convergence
of ideas and experiences on creating partnerships
for successful transportation projects.

ITD presented seven Excellence in Transportation
Awards Wednesday as part of the 2007 Project Development
in Boise. The awards recognize achievement in
the development and construction of projects related
to transportation.

EITs learn by sharing experiences
Two of the best forms of learning were evident
when participants in ITD’s Engineer In Training
program assembled for their annual conference
Tuesday (April 3) in Boise. EITs took the opportunity
to learn from each other .

Loop
chosen for professional position
Stephen Loop, QPL program administrator in ITD’s
Materials Section, was installed as the Junior National
Director for the Idaho Society of Professional Engineers
(ISPE) at its state convention March 23 in Boise.
With the recent restructuring of the National Society
of Professional Engineers (NSPE), Loop will serve
for the next two years as Idaho’s backup delegate
and then two years as the delegate to the NSPE House
of Delegates.

retirement workshops offered
ITD employees in the Boise area
who want to get a head start on retirement planning
are invited to participate in one of two workshops
scheduled April 18. The first will be from 9 a.m.
to 11 a.m. in the large conference room at the District
3 office, 8150 Chinden Blvd. Another session will
follow from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the auditorium
at Headquarters, 3311 W. State Street.

New
evacuation plan unveiled for Headquarters
More than a quarter-century ago the Idaho Transportation
Department developed an emergency evacuation plan
for its Headquarters campus in Boise. The plan,
first drafted in response to a mandate from the
Occupational Safety and Health Administration, has
evolved through several revisions
since 1971.
