Academy provides training for advancement
ITD’s district engineers, faced with high turnover among its corps of maintenance foremen, proposed a new training system for employees moving through the ranks to the supervisory level. The Maintenance Academy development team took the concept a couple of steps farther. What emerged from those initial discussions is a three-level Maintenance Academy.

Boot camp introduces architect concept
John Zachman, considered the “father of Enterprise Architecture," was the featured speaker on the first day of a four-day Enterprise Architecture “boot camp” this week. The workshop was designed to help the 31 applicants attending become better positioned to compete for one of the department’s new enterprise architect positions.

Keeping the wheels turning in Coeur d'Alene
You're driving home on U.S. 95, and you're in a hurry. You spot a string of green lights ahead and think you've got it made. Then the light turns red and you're stopped – only to sit and wait for what seems like an eternity. But it's not. In reality, the cycle time is 140 seconds, because that is the maximum "wait time" for each of the state's traffic lights on U.S. 95.

Contract manual goes digital
Hard copies of Contract Administration (CA)Manual updates will no longer be distributed in paper form, announces Doug Chase, P.E., assistant construction engineer. CA Manual Update No. 161, dated Oct. 10, is the last one distributed in hard copy. Subsequent updates may be downloaded from the Construction Section home page located on the ITD Intranet.
