The
road we traveled in 2005
As
the curtain falls on 2005, we can look back with
pride on the distance we have traveled and look
forward with anticipation to the road still before
us.

Advantage
scheduled to go live
As most ITD employees are aware, the department’s
Advantage go-live date has been postponed for a
little while. We had reported in the Oct.28 Transporter
that the use of electronic timesheets would begin
in November with a complete go-live in December.

Board

More
than 50 years ago, the Idaho Legislature severed
politics from road building. A three-member citizen
highway board was created in 1951 to make transportation
decisions. The best interests of Idaho – rather
than political patronage - dictated highway construction.

Watch program explained to board
The Idaho Transportation Board received a report about
the state’s participation in a national program
designed to improve the nation’s security and
safety when it met Wednesday and Thursday (Dec. 14,
15) in Boise.

Helicopter
removes remains of boom truck
Construction workers waiting
for equipment to be lowered from Idaho 21’s
High Bridge near Lucky Peak didn’t expect the
delivery to include a truck and its attached boom.
When they saw the truck lean toward the bridge railing
and topple over the side, they scrambled from the
path of the plummeting truck about 160 feet below.

Idaho
recognized for roadway safety excellence
The
Idaho Transportation Department’s
Office of Traffic and Highway Safety (OTHS)
recently was recognized for its outstanding
work in crash data collection and analysis.
The Idaho OTHS was one of 14 winners of
a national 2005 Roadway Safety Award from
the Federal Highway Administration and the
Roadway Safety Foundation.

Make
readiness a 2006 resolution
On Dec 31 nearly half of all adults in this
country will make at least one New Year
resolution. Friday (Dec. 16), as part of
its successful Ready campaign, the U.S.
Department of Homeland Security encouraged
Americans to make a resolution that is both
important and easy to keep – preparing
for emergencies.
